Having worked as an integration developer, I was always curious to learn how TIBCO licenses its products. So, this story is about 1 such model for the monitoring tool HAWK.

Before we proceed kindly note the below information is solely based on my experience and the license model may vary depending upon the project purchase order negotiations.

Tibco Hawk is licensed based on the number of connected processors.

“Connected Processor” is any Processor that produces information consumed by the relevant Software product (excluding processors on devices such as routers, switches, proxies, HTTP or application servers configured to substantially pass-through information or messages to Software).

The above definition is taken from https://terms.tibco.com/#definitions

Let’s take an example to understand the connected processors calculation.

For our company ABC, we have 5 machines each having 2 core processors running BusinessWorks(BW) Instance and 1 machine having 2 cores running Tibco Enterprise Administrator(TEA) server. To monitor the above architecture, we have configured HAWK in all 5 BW machines, and we manage the same through TEA server.

Now for the above case the total connected processors will be 10(5 machines * 2 cores).

We will not consider the cores of TEA machine as it is only used as server and no monitoring is done for that machine.

So, in total you need 10 connected processors license for your company ABC.
