It is a basic human instinct to be afraid of pain, well not just human but all animals too. We all are afraid of pain and nobody wants it. But here’s why we need it…

Pain is the ultimate validator for all existence and also, every sensation we feel is a form of pain, from the itching sensation on our heads to the burning sensation in our wounds, it’s all a form of pain just at different levels from each other, that’s why we call it the pain centre of the brain, pain is absolutely essential for our existence if not for this, we would’ve been extinct long ago. It is our fear for pain that keeps us alert and keeps us safe, it is what makes us human. For example imagine a world without pain and somebody just drove over your feet and you’ll be like “oh, I can’t move my feet and it’s dangling, I guess it’s broken…”. Now imagine the same situation with pain, you would’ve used every curse word in your vocabulary and called every god you’ve heard of, even when our hand goes numb the first most common thing we do is pinch it or poke it till we get a feeling shock running through our body. This reaction is what separates us humans from machines, this is the ultimate validator of our existence.

It is also one of the major reasons for the uniqueness we see in each person, I mean it’s not exactly pain that makes us unique but it’s how we react to it, and each person reacts to pain both physical and mental, in a unique way. It’s what makes one person different from the other, you can’t see this in a world without pain. We all go through painful things it may range from having to get up early to losing Someone dear, it is these painful experiences that shape up a man’s character. I’m not going to say cliches like “no pain no gain” but it is perhaps the most important attribute that all living things are blessed with, like an angel in devil’s disguise, because if not for pain we would have no feelings, no individuality, no fear, no survival instincts, etc…. In short, everything that makes us human and helped us survive would vanish, without pain.

I’m not saying I love pain nor am I interested in going through painful experiences, I’m no masochist, but it’s funny how this world revolves around irony, because the thing that we don’t want the most and fear the most is the thing that has keeps us alive and makes us human..
