It is easier for people to connect with people abroad in this increasingly global era. Language is the most crucial way of interacting with someone. As an international language, English seems to be a necessity today. Some people are self-taught, and some ask for help from other people to master this global language.

Here, I would like to share some tips that I do when I want to improve my English. Check this out!

1. Listening to Podcasts
Some people might suggest you start by listening to music you like; that’s right, you can do that, but sometimes the language structure used in the music has a figurative meaning. We rarely encounter it in daily conversation. Therefore I advise you to start listening to podcasts that use English. Podcasts usually use sentences that are commonly used in everyday life so that we can hear real examples of a conversation. Look for light topics when choosing a podcast so you can understand it more easily.

2. Watching Movies
Try to start by watching English films with subtitles from your mother tongue. Get your ears used to listening to English conversations. If you feel you are used to it, improve it again by changing the subtitles to English. This way, you will know how a sentence is pronounced. After that, improve your skills again by removing the subtitles. Suppose you are at this stage and have no difficulty understanding the context of the film, congratulations. In that case, you are already a master in English listening!

3. Reading English text
You can find English writing in any form, such as novels, news portals, or even in the Instagram captions of your favorite Hollywood artists. When you learn to read written in English, focus on understanding the context. Speed doesn’t really matter unless you’re on an exam. Therefore, read it slowly until you understand. Please take note of any unfamiliar vocabulary you may encounter and immediately find out what it means. If you have free time, try to find out how the word you have found is used, its synonyms, and antonyms so that you can enrich your vocabulary.

4. Write a Diary
By writing a diary, the hope is that you can improve your writing skills in English. When writing a diary, you don’t always need a pencil and paper because, in this digital era, you can write anything on your cellphone. Maybe you can try to start by writing tweets in English; imagine that Twitter is your diary. If you want to improve your writing skills again, perhaps you can start writing articles.

Those are some ways that I do when I want to develop my English. There are many other ways you can do, and it may be more fun. Tell me about your experience developing your English, and if you have any other tips feel free to share them in the comments! Bye.
