  1. National Honours: From 2010 to 2015, Madhya Pradesh received four consecutive Krishi Karman Award by the Union government for highest growth in food production.
  2. Remarkable growth: Agricultural production has doubled in the past 10 years, and MP is now the second largest producer of wheat from being the fourth largest few years ago.
  3. Smart farming techniques: Farming in the region is not heavily dependent on monsoons, due to the availability of water for irrigation and certified seeds. Rural development department played a major role in increasing the productivity through schemes such as Kapil Dhara, under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
  4. Record-breaking success: Madhya Pradesh clocked more than 20 percent growth in 2014–15 over the previous year.
  5. Impeccable leadership: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, current chief minister, Madhya Pradesh turned tables when it came to improving the overall agricultural production. One of the most striking incentives offered has been farm credit at zero percent interest — available since 2012–13.
  6. Rise in mechanization: Due to the availability of easy credit, mechanization has been on a steady rise. Tractor sales in the past 10 years have experienced a three-fold increase.
  7. Right fertilizers: By focussing on the soil health, the state government could effectively determine the kind of fertilizers that needed to be supplied to increase crop yield.
  8. Consistent growth: Agriculture’s share in the state’s gross domestic product has been increasing sharply, and is now, more than twice the national share of agriculture in GDP.
  9. All-around development: Robust irrigation infrastructure, steady availability of electricity to farmers, reliable roads and procurement mechanism are the main factors contributed to MP’s agricultural success in a report published by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations.
  10. Model farm growth: Its success story has now been cited as a model of farm growth in the country with the ministry even asking others states to emulate what MP has done in the past five years.
  11. State involvement: Many reports indicated that the state has seen a significant increase in the income of farmers due to the state government’s multiple measures on the ground.
  12. Impressive numbers: The ICRIER’s report noted that Madhya Pradesh’s wheat production increased from 6 million tonnes in 2005–06 to 17.1 MT in 2014–15–185% increase. The state has also done exceedingly well in the production of soybean during the period.
