Just three months back, I received an email from the GirlScript Foundation about my selection in GirlScript Summer of Code 2019. It was how my journey started, and I am happy to share my experience.

GirlScript Summer of Code is a three-month open source event conducted by GirlScript Foundation. The main motto of GSSoC is not only to encourage gender equality in the technology sector but also to help all beginners in technology who are clueless at the starting phase.

Know more about GSSoC’19.

Well, I was familiar with Open Source since my participation in the Hacktoberfest 2018 conducted by DigitalOcean. Since then I was interested in contributing to Open Source projects. This was another great opportunity to take in. The coding period started at the beginning of March.

Out of 23 projects, you are supposed to choose one project and begin your contributions. There were many projects covering a wide range of technical skills like — Python, JavaScript, Django, Java, and many others. Before beginning, knowledge of Git and GitHub was required. I was familiar with them but with the gradual span of time, I explored more. I decided to contribute to the project MEVN-Cli. The mentors created various issues labeled under Beginner, Easy, Medium, and Hard. My major contributions were on implementing the linting features of the application. There were diverse participants in the channel and an encouraging team of mentors guiding throughout the journey.

Part of the journey is the End — Tony Stark.

It was an amazing summer to explore and learn new things. I am very happy to be a contributor to MadHacks projects and a part of the GirlScript Foundation.

Do support the project — MEVN-Cli, check out the GitHub Repo here and drop a ⭐

Keep Contributing. Happy Open Sourcing.
