It is good to see when someones manager is respecting them first as a person; and then as a coworker. I really hope that your leading style will inspire other people to do the same. However, it would be great to hear that your actions after the layoffs were in somewhat same amount as in the pre-layoff activities. A bad situation at work, should not be the reason for building better relationships among colleagues. Rather, relationships should be built pre-layoffs as in your example; and compassionate actions should be nurtured all time.
