Thanks Joe! Your point about the universal product listing page is very true — it gives a very wholesale feel that would never work with high-end brands. But at the same time Amazon is very good at starting with a strength and morphing it into something novel.
With brands they started with the most mundane but essential things like batteries but are now successfully doing clothes (again starting with socks and moving up the chain). We still have a long way to go before we see everything Amazon has in store with brands.
