2017 has not only been “interesting” so far to say the least but also marks a milestone in my 25 years of existence. And what better way to celebrate my entering into adulthood than by making a list?!

here are SOME of the things i learnt along the way, hand-picked and arranged in the order of “am 25 not 52 so just shut up and read on”.

Shall we?

  1. Social media status holds ZERO importance in the real world. Inarguably.
  2. You hardly choose your friends. You only get chosen. And if you’re lucky, you get to convince them that they’ve indeed made the right choice.
  3. The impact of joy or pain brought about by any incident disappears or at least starts to fade away after a maximum of 60 days.
  4. New is not always better. If anything, it’s just more convenient.
  5. Ingrid Michaelson is a grossly underrated artiste.
  6. You will NEVER fully understand anyone’s story and just when you begin to think you do, the narrative would’ve long been edited.
  7. There’s no such thing as a coincidence; what it is is a carefully pre-planned occurrence designed to blow your mind on degrees of how aware you are.
  8. French fries were invented by the Belgians for which the French took credit (Not cool yo!)
  9. Spider-Man is my favourite superhero mainly because of his ability to climb skyscrapers with ease. [And that’s never going to change]
  10. Talking to yourself in the mirror can prove to be extremely therapeutic; provided you like yourself at that particular moment in time.
  11. Scientific/academic research isn’t always about saving humanity. 70% of the time(unverified data), it’s about acquiring grants and publishing articles that may be read by literally 0 persons.
  12. German death metal bands speak to you on a spiritual level according to how clueless you are about the lyrics.
  13. The movie “Pulp Fiction” seems twice as complicated as “Inception” after a whiff of weed(or it could be just me).
  14. Cheesecake is similar to a lot of nice things in life. Bland yet full of little surprises with an odd sense of comforting familiarity.
  15. Depending on your life choices, you would encounter atleast 3 profoundly eye-opening experiences with your close ones and it would shift the way you looked at them all along, forever.
  16. The person whom you had a crush on at 12 would get married to someone else right in front of your eyes at 24. And you wouldn’t feel a thing. That’s the mathematical unit of measurement for “growing up”.
  17. Everyone craves some form of validation. Every.Single.One. And if you believe you don’t, Congratulations! you just validated your self-righteousness.
  18. if you’re a girl, depending on your taste in men, the memory of your first kiss will be associated either with the fragrance of a shaving cream or the prickliness of an unkempt stubble.
  19. The expression “dope” is derived from “Dopamine”, a neurotransmitter responsible for the mental and consequently “emotional” state of being happy/content.
  20. Having a support group can save your life. Even if it consists of just your mother, sister and best friend(s).
  21. Happiness does not always lead to peace. Just like how knowledge seldom paves way to clarity. The more you have on your plate, the less satiated is your hunger.
  22. True love exists; it just takes a (goddamn) while for it to find you. And by the time it does, BOY WOULD YOU FEEL FOUND!
  23. The amount of unwavering self-respect you have is inversely proportional to how seriously you take yourself on a daily basis.
  24. Drinking enough water and getting ample night’s sleep can change your entire outlook on life; scientifically and otherwise.
  25. By now i am open to the idea that atleast half of the things listed above is subject to change in the next 25 years.

And Am i looking forward to the next 25? Absolutely. Am i prepared for them? well, that’s another day’s list. :D
