Dear Mr. Hopkins

I respect your opinion, and I’d like to share mine below:
EVERYONE in the sitcom was ridiculed. Why forget that Joey was made fun of for not being ‘smart enough’, while Ross was only made fun of when he spoke about his ‘particular area of interest’ rather than ‘anything intellectual’. You are bound to bore people after a certain point if you say too much without caring about your audience.

Anyway, Ross was a really loved character. He was never shunned by women in spite of the fact that he was a nerd and all his friends adored him. Each one had their quirks. It’s also sad to say that only Ross was smart — Chandler worked in IT (even though he didn’t love his job). Rachel did very well in her own industry ( in the buying/sales department), Monica was the best in her own right. Let us not stereotype people (or blame Game of Thrones for Donald Trump) and want people to all be ‘more like nerds’. What we absolutely need to learn is how not to shame people and respect individual perspectives, and I think Friends tried to do that. They had a woman who was obese, they had a nerd who was loved, they had a surrogate mother, a lesbian family, an inter-continental relationship, guys running after dark skinned women, a child out of wedlock, a gay guy married to a woman for green card, an impotent couple adopting, a young man married to an old woman, and I’m tired to type but there is so much more…

We all love brainless comedy once in a while (including Big Bang Theory, which seems to fall into the ‘acceptable’ category according to most of the points in above article e.g. nerds who are at the centre of story, mixed race group, etc.).

Thanks for your time and have a great day!

From a FRIENDS fan and a self-proclaimed nerd,
Ankit
