Evolution of the soccer ball

The @NYTimes has a highly informative article on the evolutionary design of the soccer ball. The design used in the 2014 World Cup is known as the Brazuca, which is the 3rd generation design ever since Adidas and FIFA decided to move away from the truncated icosahedral (a.k.a. Goldberg polyhedron) ball invented by Buckminster Fuller and made popular as the Telstar Durlast by Adidas during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
