Importance of Setting Goals and Resolutions

Hello People, today I am going to tell you about why ‘Setting up Goals in Life’ is important.
And how to properly set Goals.

Most of the people set New Year Resolutions on the new year eve only to find that these are the same goals which they had set last year. I have also done that. This happens because we set our goals without setting up plans to achieve the goals. One need to make “action plan” along with the goal.

When you ask an average person — What do they want to do in their life? What is their Goal? They might say — I want to be rich, I want to lose weight, I want to be famous. These are all vague dream statements and not goals.

The correct way to do is to start making short term goals to achieve the ultimate vision or that ultimate goal.

Just wishing you need to be rich will not make you rich. You need to make a plan to earn that money day by day. Similarly, just wishing that I want to lose some weight will not shed those kilos. I need to make a plan and act on it. I need to work on my plan to reduce weight week by week to make sure that I stick to my plan and achieve the goal that I have fixed.

Once you make a goal — define it into more details. If you want to be rich then what is the amount of money that you want. If you want to lose weight then what is the number you want to achieve. Write it down paste it on the wall on inside the cupboard where you can see it everyday. Make it wallpaper on your phone or write it as the password for your computer. Remind yourself everyday and follow it through on daily basis or weekly basis then review your plan on Monthly basis.

Having that goal reminding you everyday — will push you towards achieving it, It will make you do things that you may not be sure you are capable of. Write in the calendar of milestones with dates and then make sure you mark your results for those dates. Once you start doing this, it’ll create a habit and then you can look back and check the results on what goals you have set and what you have achieved against it.

Now the thing about setting your goals is — you should set your own goals and not the goals which you are supposed to be doing as everybody is doing it or it is expected out of you to do it to fit in. There is nothing wrong to fitting in. But you are trying to fit in what culture norms or society which is created by other people. Now in some cases what works for them may not work for you. So set your own goals and then you will see more satisfaction when you are working closer to achieving them.
