On the policing of masculinity ~
This might be obvious, but I think one major factor that’s left out of this discussion is the fact that cis men’s masculinity is policed in a pretty different way than cis women’s femininity is policed.
When a man comes out as bi, it seems to impact the way people see him “as a man” more than a woman’s bisexuality usually affects her perceived gender identity. Bisexual women, while facing plenty of discrimination, don’t have their “woman-ness” called into question in quite the same way.
(To be clear, I’m not disagreeing with anything in the article above, just adding.)
For what it’s worth, I think this relates to how it’s more acceptable for women to be affectionate with each other (even just in same-sex friendships) than it is for men to be affectionate with each other.
Just another reason why men need feminism too ~
