Adjuvants do not appear to be used in the MMR and influenza vaccines, though they do appear to be used in other early childhood vaccines. So, if a pregnant woman is concerned about flu during pregnancy, should she avoid the flu vaccine because it triggers an immune response, or risk getting flu and associated negative effects of flu, including a potential increase in risk for having a baby that develops autism? I don’t see how Patterson’s work that shows that immune response during pregnancy is related to the concern over adjuvants, so is the concern just broader over a possible persistent immune response from earlier life exposure? Many pregnant women are offered flu vaccine because of the concern having a flu can damage the fetus, so should they be more concerned about flu or vaccine response?
