Being Adopted…

When I was little , and people were asking me : “How come you don’t look like your mother or your father?!” , my mom always told me to say to them that she drank to much coffee when I was in here tummy, ( both my adoptive parent being white ; me being black) which I thought it was quite funny at that moment. As I grew older, that joke wasn’t funny anymore. I knew I was different. I knew something was missing.

Everyone is adopted for different reasons. In my parents case, they were not able to have children for reasons of their own. They decided they wanted to give a child another chance at a great life.

It was quite obvious that I wasn’t a spitting image of my parents at all. This would lead to tons of bullying at a very young age. I was told that I was ‘never wanted by your real parents,’ that ‘you weren’t good enough for your real parents’ and anything else along the lines of not being wanted by anybody.

I want to let all of you know that you are wanted. You are wanted, and you always be wanted. I want to let all my adopted friends know that you are not alone. There are way more people that are adopted than you may expect. Just know you are loved. I want you to know that YOU ARE SPECIAL, and do not let anyone tell you different. Just know you have a second chance with a new family who loves you more than life itself. Enjoy your life with your family and friends and don’t let anyone take that from you. Love yourself and love your family.

A special “thank you” and “love you” to my parents and all they have done for me.

love, Anna.
