The Dust Bowl and an abandoned house

Lange captures a migrant mother during the Great Depression.

Dorothea Lange was an American photographer that captured America during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. Her photographs show the struggles of living during this time from different people of different backgrounds. I was drawn to Lange because of how real her photos were. They were not posed or a reenactment. They were photographs taken then and there with no forceful or fake poses. It’s cool because it allows us as viewers to step into an era where things were tough for everyone. It’s gives us a glimpse of helplessness because these people couldn’t do anything about a bad economy. I applaud Lange for her interest in capturing photos for what they were and not what she wanted it to be.
