On Wednesday of our trip, we made it back to Aix-en-Provence so that we could get another rental car (read more about our electric car saga here), and pick up my sister who wanted to share the experience of staying in our childhood home.
Thankfully, when we got to the Enterprise rental counter and I explained our dire situation of completely failing at finding charging stations for the car, the nice young man working the counter immediately and very nicely accommodated us without any pushback. Thank you Lord! We were given an even bigger Peugeot which met all of the requirements. Not only did we get a new hybrid car, but they also gave us a credit for our troubles. Thank you Enterprise for coming through for us after all!
There is actually quite a lot to do in Aix, including visiting Paul Cézanne’s studio. Paul Cézanne was a French painter best known for his landscapes of the mountains around Aix-en-Provence where he was born.
Of course, you can also hike Mont Sainte Victoire, Cézanne’s favorite subject (bucket list), and get some pretty impressive views of Provence from the highest point of Pic des Mouches. Some of the trails are difficult and can be dangerous, and it’s best to plan well for such an adventure.
On this day, we only had a couple of hours because we were meeting my sister a little later, so we decided to stick around downtown Aix-en-Provence, probably walking the same stones my mother and grandmother walked 40 years ago. We agreed to meet Tessa in town so we could drive back together to Les Agates in Brue-Auriac.
When we collected Tessa, we headed back to Domaine La Procureuse (our Les Agates)…. More to come on this wonderful villa soon!
