Did you guess by looking at my title what I want to talk to you about???
If not, do not be disappointed ….I will tell you. I want to talk today about about portions, size of, quality, amount, and etc.
How much should we eat? Do we eat if we just ate,but we are still hungry?
I love to eat. There are so many yummy foods: pizzas, burgers, chips, hot dogs, cold cuts, frozen yogurts and so many others yummy foods from other countries. I love Indian food: samosas, tikka, fried okra. I love Mexican food: nachos, tacos, quesadillas.
I also love Russian food: salty fish, cold cuts, piroshkies and various deserts that my Russian/ Ukranian / Jewish grandma a.k.a. babushka makes. This time of year these yummy foods are everywhere. My parents usually eat very healthy foods, but for the holidays my Mom buys all these yummy things and I just LOSS control and can not stop eating. I love the taste of the salty and spicy foods. I eat it because it just taste so GOOD. It is “a party “ in my mouth. Ha-ha-ha. Because I lose my control with these foods my Mom gets upset with me, and she tells me that this is why she does not get these foods often so we do not have to have these arguments… I guess she is right.
So, I looked up that a person’s stomach is about a size of their fist… Ha, it is smaller than a burger at any burger shop…
My Mom also told me that when I eat different foods I get different flavors so I can eat more than I would eat usually. So for example, usually for dinner we have some chicken and vegetables, but during the holidays there are many more varieties so you get more flavors and end up eating more than you would usually eat.
Another thing that my Mom pointed out that during the holidays we seat at the table and chat and eat and chat more and eat more…so again we eat more than we would usually eat…
So my New Year resolution is to be mindful when I eat, to be less greedy when I eat, and to stop eating once I ate as much as my fist or maybe just a little bit more.
What are your New Year Resolutions? Do you have some foods that you can not stop eating once you tasted them? Do you eat chips/ cookies/ ice cream etc until it is gone or you have willpower to stop? Please share so we can learn from each other and be better.
Most appreciated,
Alex
