I’ve been debating how to approach this particular subject as it’s such a touchy one. From my viewpoint, I see the church as a mess.

A mess since it is so divided. There is very little unity among Christians in terms of core beliefs.

And there is a movement of those who were once in the church walking away from it altogether due to various reasons (aka the deconstructing movement).

I find myself wondering — is this the great falling away mentioned in the Bible?

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition. — 2 Thessalonians 2:1–3

There are lots of people speculating on this very thing — but, are we truly at this point in time?

I have no answers, but it does make me wonder just the same.

I can see how many will be deceived when the anti-Christ is finally revealed. With so many not being rooted in the Scripture, in the Truth, they will have very little defense against the deception that will ensnare the entire world.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron. — 1Timothy 4:1–2

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. — 2 John 1:7

How do we keep from being deceived?

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. — Colossians 2:8

So, Jesus says to the Jews who has believed Him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:31–32
