Because I know this article’s comments will be full of vile, hateful people, let me just say that I agree wholeheartedly.

People deserve to feel safe, to feel like they have a chance at making a life for themselves. There is nothing wrong with wanting something better for your children. No one deserves to be attacked, abused, or treated inhumanely.

We can quibble over legality, but the fact of the matter is that many immigrants have made their way into this country over the years. Many of them were not officially sanctioned by the ruling powers of the time. (Looking at you, early American settlers. We can dress it up in turkeys and friendship, but the fact of the matter is that you were super illegal and super alien and actively waged war on the people already living where you wanted to be.)

People migrate! It’s what humans have always done. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad, but it’s always human. The urge to relocate in pursuit of better prospects for the future is the most ancient instinct there is.

I hope all of you can find a place where you are wanted and fulfilled, that you can be safe in the meantime, and that Americans can get their act together and remember that just because you disapprove of undocumented immigration doesn’t mean you get to act like a cartoon villain anytime anyone says something vaguely nice about people just looking to live safely and happily.
