Hi Cheney, thank you for the honesty. I’m all new here on Medium (and writing in danish so far). I’m a family counselor and studying to be a therapist. Based on the knowledge I so far have about PTSD, depression and trauma, I would really recommend for you — if you didn’t already — to look into somatic therapy instead of talk therapy — since the traumas we have a “located” in the body and the lower part of the brain (the part that words cannot reach).
“Somatic experiencing” is an amazing form of therapy — created by Peter A. Levine (he wrote some great books and you can see some of his sessions on youtube). Also Bessel van der Kolk’s book “The body keeps the score” has a lot of knowledge about the PTSD, trauma and how it affects the brain + different ways to work with it.
All the best to you! Anna
