Jason, I agree with you that we tend to emulate what we have experienced. If we are loved, maybe we will show love to others. And if we are disapproved, then it is harder for us to show love, we’re uncertain to a degree. I also liked what you said, “I befriend another for reasons I probably cannot articulate…” I remember being young and your friends might have been chosen based on the toys they had. Or was they just me? And I’ve had my share of those friendships you talked about that never should have happened. Though I was not bullied. Yes, friendships are tricky, but there are those great friendships that we are thankful for. The ones with people who have opted to accept us just the way we are. Everyone should experience that at least once.
