I absolutely love this read. My biggest successes as a Dietitian have been because I recognize this very fact. I am often asked “what about artificial sweeteners? Those are bad, right?”. My response is: In a perfect world we wouldn’t eat them, no. Because we would enjoy the natural sweetness of bananas and cherries and apples and sweet potatoes. But, what is that artificial sweetener doing for you? What food is it in? If you are buying a key lime pie Greek yogurt ( which is also giving you protein, calcium, and vitamin D) and skipping the actual key lime pie slice with basically fats and sugars, then yes! Eat it! I will never villainies a food based on an ingredient, because we don’t eat ingredients, we eat food! We Fuel with food!
