Hey, Sean. Our mutual friend Jeff Carter’s blog post sent me over here.
When I was at a big mid-career inflection, I made a list of people I had helped in the past, people who had always championed me, or who always picked up the phone when I called. (Lol, remember phone calls.) I challenged myself to make it a list of a hundred people, and I dug deep into my past.
Then I sent letters — physical letters — to each of them. It contained a list kind of like your bullet points here, and told them that I was looking. I’m pretty sure that this notion came to me from having read *What Color is Your Parachute* multiple times and during seasons of career shift.
The very next day, I got a call back from one of the people. (I heart the USPS.) I don’t know if there’s magic in a letter, but we sure don’t get a lot of real mail any more: I think it gets people’s attention more than an email does.
If you a guy like Jeff is championing you, I know that you’ve helped other people in the past. Some of them will be there, and they will have your back. (Some won’t, or can’t. That’s good info to have, too.)
Godspeed.
