Performance based display advertising has become a popular mode of advertising over the last decade. But, like most things on the internet, because of the huge number of terms to keep track of, it becomes really confusing. One of the biggest source of confusion that everyone has to face is the difference between retargeting and remarketing. Both terms are usually used to refer to using cookies, in order to serve ads to users who have already shown interest in your product, brand, or service in any way. So, is there a difference between the two terms?

The answer is, No. There is no difference between the two terms — retargeting and remarketing. Retargeting is the overall cookie based method by which a user is followed with your ad. Remarketing is just Google’s version of this, within AdWords…..
