First try — 3d Modelling and Printing

Design:
The model is from a famous architecture call Temple of Heaven located in Beijing. I used a silhouette and then using the revolution feature and sketch the model out.

Reflection:

This is my first experience with 3d printing. I was so excited.

The reason I chose to create a model of Temple of Heaven is because it is a good representation of traditional Chinese architecture.

After I finished the design in Rhino, I started worrying if the model would need a support because of the angle of the roofs. My first plan is to print the model in pieces so that I don’t need a support and then combine with together. Then I realised the printing system had function that could automatically generate a support for models being printed.

I made two models. The first one was very small. It was too small for the 3d printer to print the support, So I re-print an bigger one, and this time the support was printed out normally.

Then I had a difficulties with removing the support, so I asked Andy and Lukas for help. Finally I used a screw driver and removed the support.
