Why Americans Can’t Find Joy

I think the biggest problem is our expectations. As a nation we are wealthier, healthier and more technologically advanced than anyone else in history, yet so many of us are miserable. A hundred years ago, women expected to get married to someone decent, have a family and live to be 55 if she was lucky. That was basically it. Now we just assume we can and should have it all — and when we don’t, we wonder what we did wrong.
