For me, as a vegan (and I’m past 65 now), using legumes, nuts and seeds also provide the needed protein and iron. It is a matter of how much of what kinds of food one eats. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of protein, and almonds are beneficial in just so many ways. Yet, one can as easily overeat any of those foods and get in health trouble. There are many excellent books on a plant-based diet and I recommend connecting with PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) which does recommend a plant-based diet for health reasons. They have a lot of literature and also a website that you can subscribe to for updates.
