I am MUCH more laid-back as Nina than as a mom. I think part of it is because, in truth, as grandparents, we have more freedom than we did as moms.

I found myself “falling in love” with the grandkids in a different sort of way than it was when my daughter was born. And I’m guessing it is because we really don’t have the day-to-day care that is required by moms — so we can afford to just enjoy them without all the worry and hassle and such.

Does that make sense?

I forgot to mention on your last response, that I, too, absolutely LOVE swings. And right down from where we live is a small park that has swings — and even if they are not with me, I will walk there (have to climb a pretty steep hill, and that is a bit hard on my right ankle — which is broken but has a plate in it) — and I swing just as high as I want to. That old childhood dream of being able to swing so high that I wrap the chain around the top and come down, is still with me. Oh my.

Of course, I wouldn’t let my grandkids do that — I’m sure they’d WANT to, but I’m careful.
