I do understand how tempting it is to project one’s own suspected or quite real failings onto the demonized other — hell, I’ve succumbed to it myself in the past — but here’s the thing I’ve learned: No one, and I do mean no one, is ever fooled by the projection. The thing you’re insisting isn’t true is actually, factually, provably true. But by all means, do go on insisting it’s otherwise.
