Sometimes finding the right scalable vector graphic can be the most time consuming task for a designer.
Here is a simple step-by-step tutorial showing you how to convert a PNG to a SVG, allowing you to directly edit each component.
Additionally here’s a link for the video tutorial too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KnHsc1bWqQ
Step 1 : Open the PNG image in Illustrator
Open the PNG image using Ctrl+O for Windows & Cmd+O for MAC or by going to File → Open → Choose the file.
Zoomed in, this is how the image looks. It tends to blur out as you zoom in.
Make sure that the image is selected for the next step.
Step 2 : Select Image Trace
Once you select Image Trace, the buttons change which brings us to the next step.
Step 4 : Select Expand
Once you select expand you should see a blue outline around the image.
This means that it has successfully been converted to a vector and now each entity can be edited.
That’s it!
Now all you need to do is a little bit of a clean up. Enter into the group by double clicking on the icon.
Keep in mind that the background also has been converted too, so you’ll want to delete that.
Once you have double clicked and deleted the background, you can go ahead and edit it like you would any other SVG.
Finish up by exporting it as an SVG or in any format you require.
