Thanks Chandana! In answer to some of your questions:

We kept the two-letter product logo for primary file types, because they are files that are owned by those specific products and the two-letter mnemonics and brand color are the most recognizable visual elements to indicate that.

As for why there are rounded corner versus square corner product icons, there are a few earlier responses from myself and Sonja Hernandez in the comments section of this article that you can read in detail!
