Yo World !!

Being a Software Engineer from India and a tech enthusiast, it’s often hard to decide what technology to master next where there is one evolving every day. Following Crunch Report, Mashable, The Verge, Hacker News is breakfast to the brain once you log into your rig. Often caught up with feelings like What am I doing right now? Is this what I am supposed to do? When entire I.T is being revolutionized.

NoMad Phase:

What so ever 2 years of my IT life passed along Automating and Manually Testing the Software Quality. Some would quote “QA is for housewives!”, others quote “Be content with what you have!”. However, there is a lot I have done during this period customer satisfaction being the top pursuant, which in turn lead to a better pay, promotion, career growth etc to quote a few. Working for a service-based outsourcing firm will teach you a wide variety of tools when you pursue short term assignments. Often you would know how their entire IT works from front end framework to back end server configurations.

Procrastination:

Having an overview of the entire system, you would understand how unique they stand out from their competitors. Some clients would embrace the changes and updates to stand out among rest. Some clients can’t afford to upgrade. I started off as a manual QA, taught myself how to automate manual effort of executing the test cases. When I was confident enough that I can handle any Quality Assurance challenges, I decided to upgrade my career to next level. Procrastinated three different paths of transition:

  1. CEH
  2. SFDC
  3. Big Data

Putting my efforts for an year on above three, (Not Really! I wasn’t serious about implementing them) end of the year it seemed highly probably that I can’t get along with this goal.

Wake up Call:

Later i realized that I didn’t set up short term goals to achieve. No proper measurement criteria of performance which were really important. A constant review of one self is a must. For example, there is a Web App which is running slow due to increase in traffic as the idea gained traction. Infra team will measure when to add servers depending upon the load where forecasting takes place. This could only be achieved through constant monitoring with the help Analytical and Monitoring tools. That moment i decided i should aim at something achievable. Being a QA with niche programming skills and quick learner I decided to upgrade myself as a Dev-Ops Guy.
