Raising money rant

No matter how much quality content there is online about fundraising, I swear most people still forget the absolute basics…

  1. Treat investors like humans and treat them how you would expect to be treated if you were in their shoes. Don’t treat them like a cash machine.
  2. Start your fundraising process early and genuinely ask for advice/feedback first. Don’t pretend to want advice just to pitch, be real.
  3. Know what you want. Why you want to raise money, how much, how long for, what for, where it will get you? Basics.
  4. Remember you’re not in the business of raising money, that’s bankers. Focus your energy on your product + business first and foremost.
  5. Follow up. Jesus christ, follow up it’s not hard “We invest in lines, not dots” blah blah. Regular updates to show progress, simple.
