I think it’s awesome that you would start by sharing your own story and pride for your heritage, demonstrating to the students the importance of having pride in one’s own funds of knowledge. Also, adding food into the presentation really adds a tangible aspect that they might otherwise never encounter. I remember we did that in my elementary and we got to try so many different foods and learn about cultures of which I had never even heard. The food really brought everything together; I think it’s such an important part of a culture and being able to share that is such a valuable experience.
