Overview

Use case Technical and architectural details

Live Migration

Rackware is a heterogeneous and agnostic supporting any combination of physical and cloud locations, virtualized or bare metal deployments, cloud stack and providers. The Rackware RMM’s platform replication engine is file based using its own proprietary Discover, Analyze, Capture, Transport, and Assign technology. This allows it to support all applications without the complexity of understanding directory structures, deployment on the target side, and configuration to run properly on the target side. RMM’s Rackware Discovery Group (RDG) captures the complete workload and resource requirements. RMM RDG does a full discovery of compute resources, operating system, application image, networking, and storage usage not just an application or hypervisor config snapshot. The RDG is applied to a replication site regardless of the origin’s physical configuration and the replication site. Below is the synch mechanism for Rackware RMM replication and migration :

Rackware RMM migrates storage volume data including databases from the source to the target environment. The source volumes are migrated or moved from the source to the target environment over the wire. Rackware supports block level, file and object level replication/migration from source to the target environment. Rackware supports on-prem to Oracle cloud and cloud to oracle cloud live migration.

Data Transfer Options

Image Transfer Options In cases where RDM images are smaller or a high-speed connection exists between sites, they are easily transferred via simple export/import mechanisms in the RMM. However, in many environments, connecting over the WAN may not be practical due to network topology or image size. The results of capture operations can be placed on a portable disk or simply stored in an appliance. The contents are then shipped securely to the destination site

Backup and Disaster Recovery

With Rackware RMM the image at the DR site is continuously synchronized with the origin site to ensure that this DR image reflects all changes to the production site. In the event of a failure at the Origin users are redirected to the Recovery location. Once the fault event at the Origin is addressed a delta sync back to the origin occurs then user’s fallback.
