Another-1 Switches From Cosmos To Polygon To Build The Ultimate Decentralized Fashion Platform
Like marriage, the blockchain stack you decide to build on is not always destined to be a life-long commitment. In theory, you pick your network and stick with it through thick and thin because the alternative — to develop with a faster, more scalable model — is frowned upon during certain market conditions. And yet sometimes in practice, when irreconcilable differences get too much, the benefits of chain-hopping outweigh those of staying put and sticking it out.
With that in mind, there are times that are better than others for such pivots, as is in the case of Another-1, where uncertain market conditions, and the fact that the token genesis event is yet to happen, allows our tech team to migrate all of the technology to a more suitable solution for our use case; that being the Polygon blockchain stack.
Initially, our desire to build within the Cosmos space came from our curiosity about creating an ecosystem in which brands and designers would not only be able to create a new phygital asset class by launching their NFTs on the AN1 platform but also enable them to create their own micro-economies by giving them the ability to launch their own chains on top of Another-1 by utilizing Cosmos’ Full SDK capabilities. However, in hindsight, this fascination with Cosmos and its ‘internet of blockchains’, distracted us from realizing that although Cosmos is an amazing stack, we needed a completely different stack to achieve our goals.
A platform that focuses so much on NFTs as the Another-1 platform does, will not be able to rely on a chain whose immaturity as an NFT standard protocol has direct correlations with the growth and scalability of the Another-1 platform, and in turn the Another-1 token ecosystem. And despite still envisioning Another-1 being a multi-chain project, we determined to make that possible without the need for the Cosmos IBC protocol in order to reach the right communities.
The fact, in addition to a couple of intriguing conversations we had with our senior advisors, led us to conclude that in order to build the ultimate phygital fashion platform, we will need to build on top of a protocol that will allow scaling not only for our platform functionalities, which will be dependant on the stability of our token ecosystem but will also allow us to scale in terms of collections generated and integrated on the NFT side of the platform’s backend.
The ultimate solution was obvious alas: Polygon; a decentralized Ethereum scaling platform that enables developers to build scalable user-friendly dApps with low transaction fees without having to sacrifice security. Polygon’s L2 capabilities allow for faster transactions and reduced gas costs which ultimately lead to more accessible and more efficient domain management, an aspect crucial for further development of the Another-1 platform as it will support an extensive amount of functionalities.
To make things even better, the ETH 2.0 merge will subsequently have an enormous impact on the Polygon network. It will make it even faster and more efficient as the upgrades that will come with the L1 merge will be mirrored on Polygon’s L2, and in turn, will help make the Another-1 ecosystem one of the most efficient blockchain dApps for fashion and so much more.
Moreover, Polygon’s integration with leading secondary marketplaces will ensure that all assets created and launched on the Another-1 platform will get optimal market exposure, necessary for building hype as well as trust. This is something that means a lot to us for the sake of our community, but it seems it means a lot to Polygon too as they were so excited by our switch seeing as how they already blessed us with a grant to speed up the building process.
Ultimately, we chose Polygon for the composability, network effects, and quality of the ripe Polygon ecosystem.
