The Pillars of Creativity
My journey as a graphic designer has been a mix of doubts, choices, victories, and defeats - a journey shared by any passionate creative soul.
Over the past decade, certain creative pillars have emerged to define my essence as a creative. In my tireless pursuit of the ‘wow’ factor, I’ve delved deep into creativity and idea generation. While there’s no recipe for generating a groundbreaking idea, I’ve discovered methods and practices that guide me through the creative process until that ‘wow’ moment materializes.
When the ‘wow’ factor finally arrives, accompanied by a creative narrative, I ensure that my four creative pillars — thinking minutely, respecting diversity, infusing humanity, and embracing boundless creativity. While subject to interpretation, these principles form the groundwork of my creative journey, inspiring and supporting me through every concept creation, whether for branding or typeface creations.
While there’s no universally agreed-upon roster of “creativity pillars,” numerous acknowledged principles are associated with idea generation and creativity. These principles guide concepts and enhance the creative process. These fundamental pillars are originality, flexibility, curiosity, persistence, collaboration, and broken rules.
However, while these pillars of creativity are essential components of the creative puzzle, they do not fully reflect my essence as a creative. They are part of the equation but not the foundation. Within this realization’s context, Shi emerges a fusion of powerful pillars: Think, Respect, Humanize, and Create.
“Shi” is the key to my creative journey, supporting me in creating impactful and inspiring work and guiding me through the labyrinth of creativity. Essentially, Shi defines me as creative, reflecting my passion and vision.
