The Ache On Two Legs

Space is the hard part
The way it sucks down the whole arrow

Somedays I swear it’s just impossible
to clean up all the foolish things I’ve done

When I’m talking to you
about our mutual history
remember I’m just another
stupid mammal to be added to the pile

Recall the zipper that runs through my backbone
and how drinking makes me
dare you to pull it

Remember my blood
Remember how it’s a warm drum

And forgive me on the days you see me stumble

I bruised my head
on a long green hallway

I leaked a faint light, like any wounded deer
