Before I go on with my story though, allow me to sidetrack for just a moment. Is there any phrase more likely to come true on planet Earth than “Someone is gonna get hurt….” I feel like when it comes to that sentence, parents are practically Gypsie fortune tellers. When those words come out of my mouth, there is actually more than a 100 percent chance that someone will, in fact, get hurt. If only I could predict the lotto with such certainty.
It may sound strange, but as a parent you know you’re doing a good job when your children tell you they hate you, that you’re so mean, or that you’re “the worst dad in the world.” If you aren’t hearing these things, it probably means you’re doing something wrong.
