Triplebyte is hiring an Editor-in-Chief to transform our blog into a destination for compelling stories that are rooted in data, yet fun to read. We want to publish original, analytical long-form pieces for our software engineering community. If you love researching topics in-depth, enjoy long-form journalism and working with data, this is a chance to do so at an exciting (quickly growing) startup that is making a material positive impact on society by broadening access to opportunity.

What we do

Triplebyte is transforming the way software engineers are hired. Our mission is to build an open, valuable and skills-based credential for all engineers. This is important because millions of people have skills (and deserve good jobs), but don’t fit the profile that recruiters seek. Another way of saying this is that talent is uniformly distributed, but opportunity is not. Our goal is to broaden the distribution of opportunity.

To do this, we have built a background-blind technical assessment and interview process, and we use it to find engineers and help them get jobs at top companies. Our rich understanding of candidates’ skills and propriety machine learning models enable us to find the right match between our candidates and partner companies. This is why companies like Apple, Dropbox and American Express trust Triplebyte’s technical assessment to identify the best engineers for their open roles and reduce the time and effort it takes to hire them.

The Job

Our blog is a proven, strategic growth channel for Triplebyte. Over the past four years, we distilled unique insights drawn from data collected over thousands of technical interviews, and published original research about hiring and interviewing, such as how graduates of coding bootcamps pass interviews at similar rates to university grads, how companies differ in what skills they look for, how interview performance varies with code editor usage. These blog posts have been read hundreds of thousands of times and are an incredible source of candidates.

The next step in Triplebyte’s journey is to become the definitive credential for all engineers. As we expand beyond the active jobseeker, we want to engage the broader engineering audience by publishing similar compelling, data-driven writing on a regular basis, across a gamut of topics that are interesting to engineers. Our audience likes to connect with stories that use data and/or technical content, and a fun, engaging narrative that they can relate to. We are inspired by fivethirtyeight.com, waitbutwhy.com, pudding.cool and more.

As Editor-in-Chief, you will be responsible for the tone and voice of the content we put out into the world. You will write in-depth, analytical yet fun articles on a variety of topics that are compelling to Triplebyte’s engineering community. You will also build a team of external contributors and manage systematic creation and editing of articles including shaping narrative, editing and presentation to form a consistent voice for the publication.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for people with three principle skills. First, you should enjoy researching topics in-depth and writing long-form essays (and taking the time to do it well). Second, you should be comfortable with common analytical and statistical concepts, and data visualization methodologies. You don’t necessarily need a technical background, but our audience is technical, so you need to be comfortable writing accurately about technical things. Third, you should have experience in an editorial role, working with a team to produce high-quality content.

How to apply

Please send an email to anshuk@triplebyte.com or apply here. Please include the following information in your application.

  1. A description of your background and experience writing, and why you’re interested in this job. A resume is fine (so is a brief paragraph or a link to LinkedIn).
  2. A sample of your writing. Pick something that shows your ability to present an in-depth, analytical coverage of a topic. A long-form essay is better than a news article or technical manual.
