Day #3: Haoward Nguyen

a lil’ laughter goes a long way

The little things in life that make you laugh. Dumb things like me mispronouncing a word in ‘vietlish’ or referencing some random line from the last CS lecture or someone cracking an obscure reference to god knows what at just the right time. So many funny moments. I like seeing people smile day in and day out and whatever I do in life I’d always want to see that happen. I feel like I’m a kid in an adult body sometimes because I just like to make people laugh a lot. This is more motivation for living day to day, but my bigger aspirations stem from this personality someway or another.

Laughing Through Life

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more accurate representation of Hao Nguyen than the second-to-last line of his response. I love hanging out with Hao, his spirit and his constant energy always hype me up no matter the mood I may be in before. His inexplicable slang, crazy catchphrases, and hilarious dance moves are all a part of the humongous Viet-G persona that Hao embodies. Hao is an amazing and loyal friend who knows when to have fun and when to hustle.

His quote is a reminder I sorely needed. I often find myself getting too caught up in the moment and the hectic day-to-day of life at UCLA that I forget that while I’m here to work, I need play as well. Life is an experience only lived once and it is never worth the mental energy to be constantly stressed. Relax, kickback, … and (to reference an old CS 32 lecture) sometimes an O(nlog(n²)) time is okay if it gets the job done.

Im attempting the 100 days challenge, featuring 100 of the friends I made over the years and learning about what motivates them. Read more about it here
