Why I started Guitar Design Challenge
Did you notice that all guitars tend to look like Fender or Gibson? And sounds like all the same? Indeed it seems that guitar makers do compete to imitate guitar’s sound and design solution of the past.
Stratocaster and Les Paul became iconic. Leo Fender and Gibson have standardized forever electric guitar making like Stradivari have standardized violin making.
It’s long time I’m looking for an alternative guitar but that does not look like a ham and with a sound that differs from standard sound of industrial instruments? Besides talent, I want have the right tool!
So I started my Guitar Design Challenge and that’s what I’m making:
My guitar shape is inspired by work of swiss luthier Rolf Spuler. These are the main features I’m looking for:
- High playability thanks to the rigid neck;
- Action of each individual string must be individually adjustable;
- It must be thin and light with good volume and sustain even unplugged;
- My sound comes from a PAF P90 pickups;
- And especially I’m looking for inspirational shape!
So I designed a light guitar hollowbody with central aluminum bands and a maple top and bottom . Tuners are positioned within the body.
Below you can see guitar shape and first renderings.
And also maple top shape and concept of individual adjustable height string at nut.
Ok guys, this is just a rendering of ideas I’m trying to achieve and it’s all work in progress. Everything can change and I’m open to your suggestions.
Soon I will update you shortly of every improvements I made. I achieved several successful engineering projects. Also in the past I have made many guitars with my hands. I am therefore determined to achieve further success. So…
