Nearly forty-six hundred people are homeless in Louisiana and it is predicted that one out of every four is a U.S. veteran. In the United States, there are more than 27 million veterans to whom the Veterans Administration only serves an estimated 13 million.

President Donald Trump vowed to the American people that he would create solutions for Veterans in his 2016 presidential campaign.

Trinity Baptist Church hosts local community residents for the 10th annual fall festival Sunday evening October 27th

Fall has officially arrived and festival season is in full swing in South Louisiana with more than six fall festivals happening in Tangipahoa Parish this weekend alone, despite the recent weather. It was all mud, music and fun this weekend in South Louisiana as residents packed parking lots participate in the fun and activities of local festivals.

This past summer, Roger Smith, a once-popular name around Southeastern University’s Garret Hall and the co-founder of the Southeastern’s International Toastmasters Chapter, was facing fifteen to thirty years in the state penitentiary.

A spring 2019 graduate and recipient of a Master of Business Administration from Southeastern, Smith has pled guilty to his third charge of driving under the influence with possession of illegal narcotics.

In response to the current epidemic facing our Veterans and community at large, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3652 is heading an initiative in Tangipahoa Parish called Operation 99/1.

On Sept. 14 in the downtown region of Ponchatoula, the VFW, teamed with partners like the community Veteran Service Organizations, the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance, will host a 5k/10k Walk/Run.

The VA has been tasked by the public to solve what seems like a unsolvable problem, suicides among our Veterans.

Trinity Baptist Church Hosting Vacation Bible School Again

Trinity Baptist Church located on the south side of Pumpkin Center Road is looking forward to hosting their Annual Vacation Bible School this summer on June 10 - 15. Led by senior children’s ministry coordinator Jeri Bankston, the church hopes to draw in children and families from the local community to share love and message of Jesus Christ.

The Hammond Recreation Department located at 601 Coleman Ave. is hosting their second annual Holiday Space Camp Monday April 22 through Friday April 26, to afford local parents the opportunity to invest in a STEM based educational experience during their time off this Spring Break.

The event is led by former NASA Engineer Chris Fox. Fox was able to gather a network of sponsoring organizations to get involved with his program.

Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City 10K Raises 1.4 Million Dollars

Some were there to break their own personal records, some were their to raise money for charity and many where simply there to partake in history. More than 14,000 participants from around the globe traveled to New Orleans April 20 to partake in the 41st annual Crescent City Classic 10K Run and raised more than 1.4 million dollars for charity.

In both the films “ Spotlight” and “ All the Presidents Men” the journalist used effective and strategic journalism methods that resulted in the uncovering of evidence in two of our country’s largest scandals. Born in 1954, Isiah Douglas also known as “Zeak” around the Hammond Recreation Department is an advocate for transplant donations. A local native-born and raised in Tangipahoa Parish, Zeak is a former track star of the Southeastern Nation some 30 years ago and continues to compete athletically today.

In 2009 Zeak was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Initially treated here in Hammond, Zeak was transferred over to Ochsner Medical Center of New Orleans where he would eventually be placed on the transplant list.

On Thursday, March 21 the Southeastern Faculty Jazz Trio hosted a concert for the Southeastern Louisiana University community at 7:30 p.m. in Pottel Hall.

Attendees of the concert got more than they bargined for when they discovered the event would be guest starring Louisiana State University’s own legendary guitarist, John Bishop.
