Announcing Future of Blockchain 2!
Oxford | Cambridge | London | Berlin
StakeZero Ventures are delighted to announce that, after the success of the first iteration, the Future of Blockchain (FoB) competition will be returning this autumn 2019. Last year, FoB was open to the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL and KCL. We had over 450 people take part across 120 teams,40% of which were masters level and 7/12 of our finalists had PhDs on their teams. This year, we are delighted to announce a new group of fantastic partners who will be setting technical challenges for participants and offering prizes. We are also delighted to announce Berlin as a new university city, our first outside the UK.
For those who are unaware, FoB is a 3-month blockchain competition for developers in university cities. During the competition, participants can either build a startup or answer a technical challenge. They are rewarded with numerous prizes, both monetary and non-monetary.
Concept
What if you gave talented developers 3 months, instead of a weekend, to build something amazing in blockchain?
FoB has two unique features:
- It’s longer than a traditional hackathon: rather than taking place over a weekend, our participants have a much longer period to build. The result is a more thoughtful, in-depth project at the end.
- It’s aimed at developers in the world’s leading university cities: including researchers, students, alumni and local residents (you don’t have to be attending/have attended the universities we work at).
How it works
Participants, in teams of 1–6, can build either a blockchain startup or answer a technical challenge set by a Partner. They have 3-months (November to mid Feb) to complete their project. They are rewarded by both prizes offered by Partners and General-level prizes.
During the competition, participants are assisted through:
- Meetups in each city
- Technical workshops from Challenge Partners
- Digital support directly from Challenge Partners
- Digital support from StakeZero Ventures
Timeline
- 1st Nov to 15th March: Build Period
- 15th March: Submission Date
- 27th April 2020: Demo Day
