Week 4 — Art Activity — Remix

In this collage, I put together a few pictures of my best friend Ali and I. The top two pictures are us in high school and the bottom two are after high school. I think I was successful in creating a “remix” because a collage is a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing. This activity came out to what I expected because I am not good with editing videos or audio so a collage was the easiest for me. Some mashups I can think of are the remixes of music that are played on the radio and at my job. Other mashups I have seen are video trailers that have multiple different types of content in one videos.

This is the first time I’ve heard of the app ,”Girls Around Me” and I do think it is interesting. Technically the app wasn’t illegal because it used information users had already allowed to be published. The concept of mashing together Google Maps and Facebook data could be useful to some users. I do believe it is creepy though because of how many predators there are in our society. Although I’m sure users would have had to sign agreements to make it legal, I believe the developers made the right move to withdraw the application from the iTunes store. I believe Google Maps and Facebook would have to protect users if the “Girls Around Me” app were to still be around.
