Crazy Rich Asians — My Wife Stayed Awake ’til The End (No Spoilers)

A little background: We were planning to watch The Meg. But after consulting with IMDb, we agreed to watch Crazy Rich Asians instead. Never regretted it.
Many movies later, I realized the connection between the quality of a movie and my wife.
If a movie was boring and uninteresting (or the plot has too many holes), she falls asleep. With Crazy Rich Asians, she made it through the ending!
Since it’s kind of rare to see her awake in a movie. I prepared this to show my my thoughts about the movie:
1. Crazy Rich, Asians!
Asian millionaires control the most wealth in the world (as of 2015).

It’s important to note though that this category of Asians is a minority.
In Singapore — where the film was shot- Nas made a 1-minute video about its citizens’ wealth status.
But though they are a minority, they control a major part of the society — for better or for worse.
When I was in college, I had a few acquaintances who are crazy rich Asians. These are people whose families own a university, hospitals, banks, etc… They employ a lot of people which helps the livelihood of these people.
These crazy rich Asians are an important part of the Asian economy.
2. Live Action Asian Disney Princess (minus the powers)
This is like the ultimate summary of the movie.
If you’ve seen any Disney princess movies, Crazy Rich Asians follow a similar plot. Starting from the average girl down to the royalty prince.
3. Normal Asian Family Tradition
As someone from Asia, I understand the opposition’s point in the movie.
Unlike in the West, Asians put (maybe too much) emphasis on familial ties.
To some, it may look selfish. but if you look closer at it, you’ll see deep love. Perhaps it is overbearing, but it is love.
I have known lots of people who have similar struggles. They may not be rich, but their challenges lie with family acceptance, permittance, and support.
Asians put a whole lot of meaning to “Family first”.
Overall, the movie was good. It was the generic princess type movie but the Asian theme made it unique (in my opinion). I had a few laughs on it. I recommend it. You’ll have a good time.
“Let me get this straight. You both went to the same school. Yet someone came back with a degree that’s useful, and the other one came back as Asian Ellen.” - Wye Mun Goh
Also, I expected a different ending. Good thing I was wrong.
