Food Hustle and Bustle: Room for Dessert (SM Seaside Cebu)

Room for Dessert by Casa Verde located at SM Seaside Cebu Skypark Level 3.

While my beautiful girlfriend and I were eating the other week somewhere over the rainbow, we suddenly got this crazy idea of recording the places we ate and write reviews and ratings (of course, only applicable to the food we tasted). And thus, the hustle and bustle of taking pictures of our food, remembering the names and places of restaurants (or store, if less fancy) had begun!

Last week, while touring the SM Seaside Cebu and being in awed again by the ever-increasing number of stores that weren’t there before, we found ourselves basking in sunlight and fresh air in the Sky Park of the mall. You’ll be amazed of the numbers of stores and restaurants that keep popping out in there. In fact, there are still many vacant spaces in the mall.

So, while walking and observing the Sky Park (and taking pictures 😊), we came across this cute store with a poster outside having a very eye-catching picture of what seemed to be a cross-breed of an ice-cream on cone, and a pink skirt! (kidding) Well, to be honest, I wasn’t really sure what the pink thing was until I actually held it in my own hands. Anyway, upon seeing this picture, you can only imagine a manly person with his girlfriend do: TRY IT.

This catchy display can be found outside to attract customers.

Inside, I was surprised with the vast menu that they have. Ranging from cakes, sandwiches to smoothies so on and so forth. My eyes then scanned the food displays and settled on a cake which looked like a chocolate mango cake (or mango chocolate cake?). Wanting to be sure of what was seeing, I then asked the lady who was waiting for our order if what cake that was. I was surprised when I heard: “Rainbow cake”. I was like: “What? Rainbow cake? This doesn’t look like one!” (of course, I spoke it in Bisaya). I was so shocked that I didn’t hear her correct me with “Mango sir!” until my girlfriend shook me out of my reverie.

Being a mango-lover, I then ordered it. My girlfriend then ordered the real “Rainbow cake” and being true to its name, it was really colorful…like a rainbow.

The first wave came: CAKES. I was really excited so I rushed tasting mine. I was then surprised when I felt the texture of the innings of the cake. It was a bit…hard? Or crusty? It was something like that. Nevertheless, I tried it, one bite at a time. I felt the combination of mango and a bit of chocolate having a texture of a hardened cake. Well, sounds tasty, right? Well, that’s just it. For some reason, it just stops there. It’s not that it’s too sweet or something, I just felt that there were flavors that tasted meh when combined with another. I ended up eating most of the toppings (I’m not sure if I should call it icing since the thing at the top doesn’t look like on). Sad to say, I couldn’t finish all of it. Even a sadder thing was: the cake my girlfriend ordered doesn’t stray far from how mine tasted. These cakes weren’t bad, they were just meh.

Then came the ice cream! If you plan on trying this one, I warn you as early as now, IT IS BIGGER THAN YOU EXPECTED IT TO BE. The skirt cotton candy (they called it Fairy Floss) slayed it! The whole name of my order was “Ting’s Heavenly Chocolate” while my girlfriend’s order was “Juliana’s Cookie Madness”. It was so big, and so sweet. I ordered the one with KitKat on top. Well, I really enjoyed the KitKat. The rest was normal. First, I wasn’t really a fan of cotton candy. The cotton candy I had with this ice cream was my third one in my whole life. The ice cream tasted like a normal ice cream (I’m pretty sure I like the one from McDonald or Jollibee more).

Of course, these observations are obviously biased on my own preferences. These are my perception of the tastes of these foods. These are my ratings:

Chocolate Mango Cake: 6.5/10

Rainbow Cake: 7/10

Both Ice Cream with Cotton Candy: 5/10

Still, this restaurant seems pretty good. I may have forgotten to include earlier, but this restaurant is owned by Casa Verde so they should’ve, must’ve something tasty for me. Mind you, there are still dozens of foods available in this restaurant. They have sandwiches, smoothies, hot drinks and many more that you can taste. In the future, I would love to go back there and try the others.

Once again, these ratings are purely personal. 😊 I highly invite you to try what they got. Try looking at their menu and there might be something for you (rhyme not intended).

If you yourself dined in this restaurant, feel free to respond with your own observation and ratings. After all, we are all entitled to our opinions, and TASTE.
