Arrivederci Italia, Dobry den Praha!
Damn, so we missed some blogs with fatigue and general hecticness, so suddenly this turns in to a 3-day blog post… Looks like we’re gonna have to break it, break it, break it down.
We’ll do it in 3 parts that will hopefully be relatively superfluous, 1) The last full day in Florence, 2) Our day in transit from Florence to Rome and then finally Prague plus some exploration, 3) Our first full day in Prague.
On our full day in Florence, having already seen the Uffizi and most of the normal tourist sites apart from David due to the strike the day previous we decided to head there first after a slight sleep in. Around 9AM we arrived at Galleria dell’Accademia and entered the non-existant line for the “No-reservation” people, versus the relatively lengthly line for the “Reservation” people. Walked straight in to this bad boy

After we saw the statue of David we quickly did a look around the rest of the museum to get our money’s worth, before deciding to go to Pisa! It is about 1 hour on the train to get there.

We wanted lunch but Pisa itself was very boring (Ant: shitty) so we got back on the train to Florence straight after grabbing some chips and a Coke Light (tm) from Maccas, to keep in the theme of always eating italiano foodo. That evening we went to the Galileo science museum where we saw lots of cool science and astronomy tools and also pieces of Galileo’s body e.g. his finger and tooth which for some reason are there.

After the museum we had some time to kill before our dinner booking so we went to a coffee shop/wine bar that was like something you would find in Perth called Ditta Artigianale so we sat in there for a while before making our way to dinner at this vegetarian place called Brac which was super delicious (Ant: Ricotta Lasagne to die for), and also apparently super exclusive with a lot of people coming in to the door being sent away (it had a very small number of tables and not a massive kitchen either… From what I could see it looked like the restaurant was served from a 4-burner cooktop among various other kitchen staples).

And that concluded the last night in Florence. We got up at 6am the next day to catch a 7.40am train back to Rome so we could make our flight to Prague on time. The Rome airport was giant and the customer service terrible but luckily we flew out without too much waiting around. We were in the air for about 1.5 hours and managed to catch public transport to our hotel in Prague. We took the steepest escalator ever to get out of the metro station:

And arrived at our hotel which is very very nice for $35 each per night.

Then we decided to venture out into the bitter cold to explore a bit of Prague which looks like an absolute fairy tale at night. The place is also very Americanized, Starbucks everywhere and everybody speaks English which is awesome! The second photo below is a Trdelník which is a kind of wrapped around crunchy donut cooked over hot coals that is very tasty when layered with Cinnamon and Sugar! The two spires is the Mary before Tyn church, it looks like a creepy version of a Disney castle from below, amazing.

The next day we went up the astronomical clock tower which had great views of Prague as well as a detailed history of the clock as you walked up the stairs, which meant Anthony took a very long time to get to the top.

Then headed back down the stairs..

Went and got some delicious snacks

Then we decided to go to Prague Castle which is on the other side of the river and up a hill.

After that we were pretty tired so we walked back through town to a little place called Country Life to get some raw desserts, we had a caramel cake which praline-y, rubbery and not all that good as well as a blueberry slice-type thing which was much tastier! After that we headed back to the hotel but not before Anthony got another Trdelník.
The day is not quite over yet but because we were so behind on blogs we thought we had better post one and then that way we can fill in our escapades from tonight in the next blog. Until next time!
