Thanks! In fact, that’s essentially what SuperDuper! does: it keeps the external drive exactly synchronized with the internal drive. Files on the external drive are compared by checksum, so that data doesn’t have to be copied repeatedly.
The thing that it does that’s somewhat advantageous is that it doesn’t copy stuff that doesn’t need to be copied, so it’s a bit faster after the first backup. But the outcome is at least in theory the same.
