Meeting-mania ?

The symptoms of “meeting mania” are too many meetings and uncertainty about their added value for the company.
For the company this is very time consuming, and it causes a loss of overall efficiency and chronically demotivates employees.
This leads to anxiety, stress, pressure, and countless hours of “unproductivity”.

Continuous Improvement

“You can’t manage what you can’t measure”
Norton et Kaplan

Imagine an athlete who runs marathons without a stopwatch: first he has no idea of his performance, but especially he does not know if he does better or worse than before … so he has no chance of improving.

One thing is sure: to enable continuous improvement we definitely need metrics.

What metrics can we get from a meeting ?

Like any analysis, we can turn to quantitative and/or qualitative metrics

It is fairly easy to get quantitative metrics, such as number of meetings per day, length of each meeting, number of participants, time spent by each in a meeting, or even the “cost of the meeting”.

It is quite another problem to capture qualitative metrics, and in particular to answer the question: “Did this meeting bring value to the company?

How to measure the value of a meeting?

The best way to measure the value of a meeting is ask the feelings of each participant and activate the feedback loop.

The approach recommended by Agile methods is to ask the participants their Roti (Return On Time Invested).

So we’re going to ask every participant to evaluate the time spent in the meeting and give a quick comment to explain their choice.

Added Value

Using this method, a qualitative metric is transformed into a quantitative metric. We are able to measure the “added value” of a meeting and to detect improvements through the comments .

Roti.express platform

We built a tool that would help companies fighting Meeting Mania, based on “Automating the Roti survey” the idea is to enable the feedback loop.

You can see it in action here : your Return On Time Invested reading my article

Users ask for additional features like company-wide statistics, I found it very relevant but I definitely receive a bill from Amazon at the end of the month so we created a “premium plan”.

Hope you enjoy the product : https://roti.express/
